The Library Lady Blog

A new blog that features the nerdy side of life, including books, traveling, the outdoors, and more.

We all have our favorites; favorite food, music, seasons. (Mine? Tacos, rock music, and fall!)

But this post is about our favorite things of all time… books! Specifically this time, my favorite series. As time goes on, I’m sure I will add to the list, but for now, these are my top favorites.

  1. Harry Potter
    • Okay, like every other nerd out there, Harry Potter will always be my top #1 book/series. I’m not sure I could even get close to how I feel towards these books. Harry Potter gave this shy, confused child a place to escape too, away from the bullies of school, my parent’s messy divorce, and the general harshness of life. I read, and re-read, and re-re-read those books every chance I got. I brought my copies to school, read them on the playground, or when all of my work was done in class. My imagination was a bit wild as a child, and I could swear to you that I was in those books, running along Harry, Ron, and Hermione. This is where my true passion for reading came into place, and I will forever be thankful to JK Rowling for introducing me to such a wonderful world. I can’t wait to share this passion with my kids.

  2. Percy Jackson
    • Every kid has probably been obsessed with the Percy Jackson series. Since my days of reading the first five books, so many more have been published. The kids at my library just eat them up. To catch up with them, I’m re-reading them now. I just finished the Lightning Theif, started Sea of Monsters a couple of days ago. This is an excellent series for your kiddos, but honestly, adults will love it just the same. Percy is a wise-cracking, always into trouble, a big-hearted kid that we all love. The adventures that he and his friends are on are always jam-packed full of adventure, and who doesn’t love the Greek myths that tie along to it? Riordan does a great job of incorporating the myths in a kid-friendly way that doesn’t dumb down the story. I’m excited to finish the first five books, and start the next series, and see what more trouble these kiddos get themselves in.

  3. Twilight
    • Alright, I can hear the boos already. Go ahead, let them out, I’ll wait…
All done? Okay, let’s get started!
Twilight is one of my favorite series. There, I said it. I was an early teenager when the books came out, and the movie craze hit. At first, I wasn’t really that interested, it wasn’t my thing. But my friends insisted I read the books, and one of them let me borrow their copy. And like every other teenage girl out there, I was hooked. I think the thing that keeps it on this list was just the fond memories of my friends and I giggling, declaring which team we were on, or if we would rather be a vampire or werewolf, all that grossness. But honestly, the books weren’t that bad. Was it the best book series ever written? No, of course not. The movies were pretty butchered, I wish they would have done a better job at those. The books wouldn’t get so much crap if the movies were done better in my opinion. The books offered a lot more than what the movies let on, like Bella’s sassiness. I lived for how sarcastic that girl actually was. Hate me if you want, but I loved the Twilight books. It deserves a spot on my list.

  4. The Ruins of Gorlan (Ranger’s Apprentice, #1)
    • Another young adult read, but honestly guys, these books are fantastic! So much more to these books than some silly love triangle. I love anything medieval or fantasy, and these books do a great job of combining both with believable characters and beautiful settings. Perfect for younger kiddos as well, a whole family could enjoy this series. There is a lot in the series (12 books in the first series, and then quite a few more in later additions), so you will have lots to binge on.

That is it for now, as I read more series, I’m sure I will add another post of my favorites. For example, the Hunger Games I’m pretty sure will be added. I want to finish the third book first. Most of these are super old, but some honorable mentions are:

  1. Evernight by Claudia Gray
  2. Marked by P.C. Cast
  3. The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot
  4. The Selection by Kiera Cass

And some series I want to read in the future are:

  1. Cinder by Marissa Meyer
  2. The Maze Runner by James Dashner
  3. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke
  4. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
  5. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

What are some of your favorites? Do we share any in common? Let me know your thoughts! (Go easy on the Twilight hate 😛) Until next time ♡
